Medication Management Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have a question? Feel free to give us a call and also take a look at some of our most frequently asked questions.

  • What is the difference between Medication Management and Therapy?

Think of therapy as the space to develop emotional tools, process experiences, and build coping strategies. Medication Management focuses on the biological side of mental health. It involves a clinical evaluation of your symptoms to see if medication can help provide relief and stabilize your system, making it easier to engage in your daily life and your therapeutic work.

  • What is a PMHNP, and how are they different from a Psychiatrist?

A Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) is an advanced practice registered nurse specifically trained to diagnose, treat, and prescribe medication for mental health conditions. While both PMHNPs and Psychiatrists provide psychiatric care and prescribe medication, their educational backgrounds diffe, one begins in nursing and the other in medical school. At Calm Clarity, our PMHNPs provide the same high-level clinical care and diagnostic expertise you would expect from a psychiatrist.

  • Do I have to be in therapy to receive medication management?

Not at all. While many people find that combining both yields the best results, it is not a requirement. You can choose to use our medication management services as a standalone resource or as a complement to the therapy you are already receiving, whether that is with us or another provider.

  • How often are medication appointments?

The pacing for medication management is usually more spread out than weekly therapy. After your initial 60-minute intake, follow-up appointments (typically 20–30 minutes) occur every two weeks, monthly, or even every 60 days once you are stable. We adjust the frequency based on your specific needs and how you are responding to your plan.

  • Is medication management covered by my insurance?

Yes, our medication management services are covered by most major insurance providers, including Colorado Medicaid. We also offer competitive self-pay rates for those who prefer not to use insurance. We want to ensure that getting the right clinical support is as straightforward as possible.
